Demetra Davis, also known as Mete (pronounced MEE-T), is a native of Portland, Oregon.
Mete Davis is the youngest of 4 exceptionally talented children born to James and Asylean Crawford. She is married to the Bassist - Drummer and Composer, Jimmy Davis, and the mother of four. Mete has always been extremely active in both church and community affairs.
Affectionately known as "Sister Mete" through out the Oregon, Washington and California states' church population, she totally surrendered her life to God at the age of 15.
An accomplished musician, Mete began composing music and lyrics, as well as singing songs that glorified the Lord by the age of 16. This being more than ten years after her first public display of musical talent at the tender age of 3, when she would play during services at her father's church, the St. Mark Church of God in Christ.
God's tremendous gift to this young woman would be showcased through the piano and the Hammond B-3 organ, her instrument of choice.
In 1977, the then Demetra Crawford joined the Albina Christian Life Center Church of God and has served the Lord, His church and the local community in the capacity of the Minister of Music at that church. She has been the music director for the past 23 years, blessing a countless number of people through her God-inspired efforts. In 1999, she was chosen to co-host Gospel Greats 99 a celebration/concert broadcast by Portland, Oregon radio station 1290 KKSL, marking the Gospel Greats program two-year anniversary.
So now that you know a little bit about her, if you see Demetra Davis, shake her hand. If you see Sister Mete, raise those hands and praise the Lord along with her. But by all means...enjoy her music and support her work however and whenever you can!
